Can I store my own Books in ".pdf or .doc" format in an Amazon Kindle?

I think if you get the kindle 2 or th dx you can store your own date but not with wireless. btw i wouldn't get the kindle dx it's really expensive and if you read the reviews it breaks far to easily and then amazon will find a way to hold you responsible not send a new one.
